And here it is. As the new moers festival poster is revealed, the blog goes back online. And as you can see, this time it’s in English. We hope that’s OK for everyone. Lots of people, especially the musicians, found it strange last year when they could see we were blogging about them but couldn’t read what we said. And the moers festival is an international festival after all, a fact we feel we ought to take account of.
So what’s new this new festival year? The moers festival now has an active facebook account and is occasionally to be found on twitter, so we can share more of your lives than ever before. Apart from that we have renewed our cooperation with the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and are planning a couple of experimental projects with them. The animated video to go with the poster is just a little taster of things to come. If you like it, you’re in for a treat – as I say, that’s just the beginning. For the moment though, the focus is on the poster.
Il-Jin ATEM Choi is a graphic artist who 2 years ago not only made the break from his native Moers, he went from being an economics student to a street artist. He now has a little studio in Frankfurt and an impressive number of projects to his name. The moers festival poster is the result of his musings on all the things contained within these two little words, which led him to come up with some pretty far out anagrams such as “massive Folter” (“massive torture). Is this starting to make sense? Just like the moers festival, the poster is surprising and even contains some disturbing elements. Improvised music can be all of these things. You can never know what the music holds, only be there to experience it.
The poster was created on 9 removal cartons, and when we presented it to the press, we set it up in our office, as you can see from the photo. It can be erected and dismantled at will, anywhere. You might even come across it in your own city one day.
What are the other anagrams hidden in the poster? We thought long and hard about making this into a “guess the anagram” competition, but as that’s not really our style, here they are, in order of appearance:
REVOLTE IM FASS (insurrection in a barrel)
ATME VOR FLEISS (breath with hard work)
AMORS LIVE FEST (Amor’s live party)
MASSIVE FOLTER (massive torture)
Il-Jin will be popping up again during preparations for the moers festival 2010. If you want to find out more about the artist, take a look at his websites: ATEMMETA or myspace ATEMMETA
Until then, thanks for reading – and please come back again regularly. Don’t forget that you can subscribe to the blog’s rss feed, making sure that you never miss an entry.
